Smoothie is a commonly seen product item whether in hand-shaken beverage stores, fusion diners, restaurants, or even cafés and it is further the key item in the European and American markets. According to the 2020 annual report announced by the chain-store café, Starbucks, the financial report for Q3 of 2020 indicated a revenue reaching US$7.5 billion, which is the quarter with the highest revenue in history, and the key for the prosperous business performance was Cold Beverages! Since cold beverages usually have a higher price and a higher profit, which have therefore promoted store growth and profit.


According to the report from Business Insider, a director from a store in Maryland, USA described that Starbucks has become the Frappuccino Factory, as the number of cups of Frappuccino produced per day exceeded hot expresso. All signs indicate that customers love cold beverages, especially the Millennials (generally referring to people born between the 1980s and 1990s) and Generation Z (people born between the end of the 1990s to the beginning of 2010). The sales value for cold beverages grew by close to 45% from 2016 to 2020 and the probability for customers of less than 30 years of age ordering cold beverages is twice as much as consumers from other age groups.



Smoothie is definitely one of the core items when observing a drink menu. However, there are many approaches to producing a cup of a delicious and popular smoothie. One can add combinations of ingredients freely and there are different tea options as well, but the main key point is still the flavor of the smoothie itself. The most popular item at Starbucks is the Coffee Frappuccino® Blended Beverage or the Green Tea Frappuccino® Blended Beverage and Chocolate Frappuccino® Blended Beverage familiar to people, as well as the recently popular Fruit Frappuccino, such as the strawberry cheese smoothie and the Mango Pomelo White Jelly Smoothie.

For beverage stores in general, they will not only use fruits when making smoothies, as the sweetness of fruits is too low when making smoothies due to the thinning from the ice cubes.
